The Japanese wanted to see their research repeated and confirmed by a major U.S. research institution like UTHSC. For the research to proceed, UTHSC needed a U.S. source of Reishi mushrooms. When he learned of the proposal, Bradberry offered to grow Reishi at his nursery, if the Japanese would provide the know-how.
After several trips by Bradberry and his production specialists to Osaka and several trips by the Japanese Reishi specialists to San Antonio, Reishi mushrooms were successfully grown in San Antonio, and the research project under the direction of Dr. William Stavinoha, at UTHSC began. In fact the growing operation was so successful that production quickly exceeded the needs of Dr. Stavinoha’s research project.
While in Japan, Bradberry found a huge market for health products made with Reishi mushrooms. The idea of turning his excess Reishi production into export sales to Japan, captured Bradberry’s imagination, and ORGANOTECH® Reishi mushroom products were born.
The first consumer product developed was ORGANOTECH® Reishi mushroom supplement tablets, followed two years later by ORGANOTECH® Reishi mushroom capsules. Both products are made with 100 mg of organically-grown, mature red Reishi in each tablet and capsule. The tablets meet the needs of vegetarian consumers, while the capsules meet the needs of consumers who do not want the maltodextrin that is used as a binder in the tablets.
Unlike most health food companies, Vitasol, Inc. the parent company for ORGANOTECH®, is totally dedicated to the production, processing and sales of Reishi mushroom products, and nothing else. When ORGANOTECH® launched a major print advertising campaign in 1990-1991, several U.S. health food companies tried to jump on the Reishi bandwagon. Unfortunately, to maintain their high profit margins and undercut the price of ORGANOTECH® Reishi these companies resorted to misleading products made from Reishi mycelium instead of mature Reishi. The ORGANOTECH® Reishi customers who were lured to the cheaper Reishi mycelium products, were dissatisfied and quickly came back to ORGANOTECH® products. However, many other consumers who tried the Reishi mycelium products as their first experience with Reishi mushrooms were also dissatisfied, but they never received the chance to come back to ORGANOTECH. Instead, they just assumed that all Reishi products were worthless.
Over the past ten years, ORGANOTECH® has weathered a flood of misinformation from its competitors, and has come through the experience a better company. During the same period, several cheap Reishi imitations have come and gone. ORGANOTECH® Reishi is still here bringing the very best in Reishi products to customers all over the world.
